The Future of Theology
Jürgen Moltmann, professor emeritus of systematic theology at the University of Tübingen, is the author of The Theology of Hope, The Crucified God, and The Living God and the Fullness of Life (WCC Publications, 2016). This presentation at the Ecumenical Centre, Geneva, 13 January 2016, builds on Professor Moltmann’s response at the American Academy of Religion, November 2015, to presentations about his work.
Whoever asks about the future must understand the present. I am beginning therefore with theology after 1945: Where is theology in the West now? In the second part, I shall try to conceive the necessary ecological turn of modern theology today, and in the third part, the pneumatological turn of Christian theology coming from non-Constantinian churches in Asia and Africa.
